Radia Source

Radia Source is a suite of applications to support community radio stations, which have certain characteristics that set them apart from commercial ones, namely: author-based programming, content sent from different sources, as well as low human and financial resources.

To support these requirements, two modules were designed: the Scheduler and Playout. The Scheduler module is a web application that stores the essential information for the station: its schedule, programs and authors. It provides both the UI for users and an API for integration with other apps and services. The Playout module takes as input the data available at the Scheduler, and handles the actual playback and broadcast.

We are currently getting the aforementioned modules ready for production at Rádio Zero, but the architecture supports the creation of other applications. We have plans for a portal that uses data from the Scheduler but is focused on the social aspect of a community radio station. There are also ideas to build smaller components such as an automatic podcast feed generator and a notifications service.

Soa-te a ISTo

Crossing field-recording with a strong need for connecting the two geographically and culturally separated halves of IST, Soa-te a ISTo was born. The platform is built on Ruby on Rails, using the Google Maps API so sounds can be timetagged and geotagged. Besides having an upload interface, sounds can be accessed for listening and downloading in several ways. The website is also a platform for artists who want to use it for experimenting, using the provided sounds for their own art pieces.

Digital Studio

This project is still being sketched-out. Our plan is to create a fully functional studio using only digital components and Open Source tools.
